Today, while walking with my walking partner during my lunch hour, the topic of old flames came up. They came up in a weird round about way but it was nice to revisit some past stories.
It seems so many years ago now and yet some images come to mind so crystal clear they could have been yesterday. Of course, a lady never kisses and tells but hey! when was the last time I was accused of being one of those? *wink, wink*
High school romance was actually pretty good. Music played a very big part of it all. It seemed like we always had a sound track playing in the back ground. Because of this, I have many 80's songs that make me remember specific moments in time.
This song will always be the song that played the first time my parents allowed my 1st boyfriend to come to the house and watch a movie. I remember cuddling on the couch and hoping that the song would never end as the credits rolled.
This song takes me to the Fox theatre in downtown Detroit. This concert was going to be the best ever. All my friends were there and remember that guy? The one from the couch? Yeah. He broke up with me during this song. In the middle of the concert. A sad, sad night. The one redeeming thing? A good friend that sat up all night and talked me through it.
Now I know your saying-- what the hell kind of music were you listening to?? Remember it was the 80's and big hair was in and poor musical taste was in abundance! Plus I was a moody teenage girl-- so back off!!
Now, This song. This song takes me to the rooftop of my boyfriend's house. (New boyfriend-- keep up!) Warm spring afternoon. Sun bathing and the thrill of learning about each other as we talked for hours. All the while hoping for a kiss.
Ah! I've got a million of them but I'll keep a few for the next time.
So what about you? What song takes you down memory lane?
When I was 16 I bought my great grandmother's 1970 Plymouth Satellite. The thing was as long as my parents' station wagon, but only had 2 doors. It smelled of mice and had more Bondo than body, but it was mine and that V8 under the hood made it FLY.
ReplyDeleteOne of the first things I did after I got it was to pull out the ANCIENT AM radio and install an Audiovox cassette deck stereo. It was cheap, sounded a little tinny, and had a habit of falling out of the dash going over big bumps, but it was MINE and I loved it. I never felt so free as when I piled into the big bench seat and hit the gas.
Def Leppard was the soundtrack for that summer, and I put the longevity of the cassette tape to the test, playing Hysteria over and over and over again. Pour Some Sugar On Me was my song, and to this day, it evokes that sense of soaring - the big, swinging wheel, the hum of the tires, and the sweet, solitary independence of that first, fabulous car.
